Please don’t tell me your marketing is fine.
Because the middle of the year is a danger zone of meh. The adrenaline from January is gone and you’ve settled into “steady.” And it seems fine because… because nothing’s technically broken.
True, nothing’s on fire. But what is happening is quieter than that because you’re just doing the same – or even less. This means you’re not moving forward. You’re losing ground as your competitors keep moving and your customers keep forgetting.
Melodramatic? Maybe. But that’s the deal with meh – it never feels like an emergency until you’re six months down the track.
Here’s where meh sneaks in:
- You’re still posting, but without saying anything. Your content is scrolled past becuase it lacks a sharp message. Meh marketing looks busy on the surface while you’re becoming forgettable.
- Housekeeping has trumped strategy. A tidy-up here, a refreshed header there. Meanwhile nobody’s checking whether your customers want something different, or whether there’s an opportunity sitting right in front of you that you haven’t clocked yet.
- Nobody’s asked if your brand or product is turning heads today. What felt sharp in January can sound like elevator music by July. It’s not offensive. It’s just not doing anything.
So be anything but meh.
- Push your visibility harder – where are people noticing your brand?
- Check your affinity – would someone pick you over a near-identical competitor right now, for a reason that isn’t price? Say it out loud.
- Land a total stranger on your marketing – will they instantly get what you do and who it’s for?
Feels shaky?
This isn’t a “write me a better Instagram caption” problem. This is a strategy problem, dressed up as content.
So, think of mid-year as a second starting line. You’ve got real data from the first half to sharpen the second. What’s worked? Push it harder. What hasn’t moved the needle? Drop it or change it.
Meh is not going to get you remembered or chosen. That’s exactly why we push marketing continuously – standing still might feel safe, but it’s quietly costing you (and here’s the secret – you won’t notice until November).
So, what’s your plan for the next six months: forward, or backward?
